The Best Reformer for At Home Available on Amazon (Today)

The best value on Amazon today goes to the Merrithew® At Home SPX™ Reformer Package with Vertical Stand available here. At time of publication, this Package is priced at $3549 plus $260 for shipping. If you don't need this space-saving orientation, you can get the rest of the benefits from this one for $2568, instead.

Sure, there are more affordable options on Amazon, but here is why this is the best value on Amazon today.

  1. Name brand recognition: Merrithew is an established and trusted brand in the industry. While I do not own this reformer, I trust that it is high quality and will not disappoint those looking for a studio quality experience at home.

  2. Includes critical props: Many Reformers come priced without items like the Long/Short Box and Platform extenders, etc. Long/Short Box is not a nice to have, it is a must have item for the full Reformer Pilates experience, and other brands can set you back a few hundred dollars to purchase it separately.

  3. Established manufacturing: Circling back to being an established brand, I trust the manufacturing process has been refined to have quality control mechanisms in place. This also means that they can reliably offer replacement parts as needed. As your reformer ages, there is maintance required like replacing wheels and springs and you want a brand to still be around when that time comes. Merrithew has been around a long time, and while you can't predict the future, its a fair bet they will be around longer than many of the lesser established, lower priced brands.

  4. Space Saving: It stands vertically for space saving efforts. This is one thing that was so nice to have when I lived in an apartment. I have a model from Peak Pilates at home that does the same and when I was in a one bedroom apartment, I was able to lean mine in a hallways and simply roll it down when I was ready to practice. This is so much more convenient than the folding models that are clunky and difficult to fold and unfold according to many of their reviews.

Many studios carry Balanced Body reformers, so this brand may feel different and take some getting used to, but the transition would be much smoother, in my opinion from Balanced Body to Merrithew than it would be to an off-brand model. If you are only interested in Balanced Body, though, this Rialto Reformer/Tower Combo would be the best value, in my opinion. It includes a tower attachment, which gives you more options for exercises you can do, but is not as space-efficient, and requires the purchase of the additional props, like Long/Short Box. As I previously mentioned, I own a Peak Pilates reformer, and while it used to be available on Amazon, it is not available there today, which is why it is disqualified from consideration for this post.

There is a place for lesser known brands if you are looking to save money, but I don't think a Reformer is where it is at if are looking for an experience that is close to what you are used to at a studio. I do not mind off-brand Pilates Chairs and have had good experiences with those, and an off-brand prop like squishy ball, mat, or ring is usually an excellent choice.
